Protest against land acquisition turns violent
text_fieldsMalappuram: A protest against land acquisition turned violent at AR Nagar in Malappuram.
Police lathi-charged and used teargas to disperse the protestors. The locals blocked the revenue officials who had come for survey.
Heavy security was arranged for the survey officials. The protestors pelted stones against the police as well.
Protestors comprising women and children blocked the officials on one side. Meanwhile a group of protestors pelted stones against the police from the other side.
In response, police resorted to lathi-charge injuring several people. Police broke into nearby houses taking on the protestors harshly. Even women were not spared.
The Chief Minister had earlier assured that an all party meeting would be held before starting the survey. The natives were agitated as the meeting has not been held so far. The people complain that they were denied proper compensation and humane consideration.
