Merchants on strike against hartal day violence

Malappuram: Merchants of Tanur in Malappuram district went on strike on Tuesday protesting against violence as part of hartal on Monday. Police has declared curfew in and adjacent areas of Tanur.

High security arrangement has been put in place in the area.

On Monday, the police had arrested 280 people in connection with violence instigated as part of hartal. Overall security all over the district has been beefed up.

Kerala, especially in the northern region, witnessed a wide shutdown on Monday as a hartal call, in protest of Kathuva rape incident, emerged from unidentified sources and got transmitted through social media.
