No physical torture on Hadiya, not given drugs, say police

Kkochi: Kottayam Superintendent of Police, on Thursday, submitted a report to Kerala Women's Commission stating that Hadiya, in Kerala's alleged love jihad matter, is guarded by police and there is no physical torture from her father's side.

The police, in its report, also stated that she was not given any drugs.

This comes after the State Women's Commission directed Kottayam SP to enquire and to submit a report on the same.

On October 31, the Supreme Court observed that the consent of the girl is prime in the Kerala 'love jihad' case, adding that she is a major.

The top court also asked the father to produce Hadiya on November 27, the next date of hearing in the case.

Earlier, the Kerala Government had told the apex court that the state police is effectively investigating the alleged 'love jihad' case of the state and hence, there is no need for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe it.

In an affidavit, the state government informed the apex court that the state police is competent enough to investigate such crimes.

Four months ago, the Kerala High Court had sent Hadiya with her parents, K M Asokan and Ponnamma, after annulling her marriage with Shafin Jahan.

The case is under consideration of the Apex Court now, which had ordered the NIA investigation into it.
