Govt to provide financial support to P U Chithra, job to C K Vineeth

Thiruvananthapuram: The State government Wednesday decided to provide a scholarship of Rs.10,000 a month to P U Chithra, the athlete who won gold in 1500 metre race in Asian Athletic Championships.
The State Cabinet held here in the morning also decided to provide a daily allowance of Rs.500 for her training and food expenses, in addition to the scholarship.
P U Chithra was excluded from the Indian Athletic Team participating in the World Athletic Championship to be held in London by Athletic Federation of India that said that her timing was not close to the standard set by the AFI.
Chithra, hailing from a poor family in Mundoor in Palakkad, has won many national and international gold medals in race items.
The Government decided to support the athlete in view of her brilliant performance and her poor family background. The Scholarship and financial assistance for training will be made available through Kerala Sports Council.
The State Cabinet also decided to appoint C K Vineeth, the famous Indian professional footballer, in the government service at par with post of Secretariat Assistant.
Vineeth, hailing from Kannur in Kerala, was working with Accountant General Office in sports quota. However, he was terminated from service recently saying that he was irregular in his duties at the office.
The Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, had appealed to the Union Government to reinstate the footballer because his long leave from office was imperative for his training and matches. However, the Sports Ministry of the Union Government did not heed to the appeal. Hence the decision to appoint Vineeth in State Government Service and provide him full support for his training and matches.
