Kozhikode: Malappuram District Collector has issued orders to demolish the check dam built illegally by Nilambur MLA P V Anvar in Kakkadampoyil.

Collector Amit Meena clarified that he has directed the irrigational department to demolish the dam.

A complaint was raised earlier that the public works department was delaying the implementation of the collector's order that was issued eight months back by citing silly reasons.

It was former district collector T Bhaskaran who first ordered the demolition of the dam. The PWD authorities said that they do not have the technical capability to demolish the dam. In this scenario, the job has been entrusted to irrigation department.

The collector's order has come out in the backdrop of the controversy generated over the alleged violation of norms in the construction of the amusement park at Kakkadampoyil.

The water theme park owned by the MLA has been reportedly functioning ‘illegally’ without necessary permissions from the panchayat and the Pollution Control Board (PCB).

The PCB had refused license to the amusement park owned by the MLA pointing out that it lacked necessary waste treatment facilities. Following this, the panchayat too withdrew its sanction for the park. It also said that no safety checks have been conducted on the rides at the park.

The Forest Department initiated probe over a complaint that a check dam has been built ‘illegally’ for the park.
