Athirapally project impossible to implement, says A K Antony
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader A K Antony has said that the hydropower project at Athirapally needs to be abandoned.
He remarked that development that exploits nature was impractical and therefore any discussions on the project should be stopped.
"We don't need development at the cost of evicting farmers and tribal. I don't know under what circumstance did the former chief minister Oommen Chandy said we need to discuss the project before implementing. It's impossible to implement the project and hence any discussion regarding it need to be stopped," he said.
Antony added that it was impossible to reach a consensus in the matter.
He also demanded an investigation against Minister Thomas Chandy who faces allegations of building a resort encroaching into the land of Punnamada Lake. Antony opined that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan giving a clean chit to Chandy even before any kind of investigation was not appropriate.
