Allegations against Thomas Chandy should be probed: Chennithala
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Wednesday said that an investigation should be ordered into the allegations against NCP leader and Transport Minister Thomas Chandy that he misused government funds to reconstruct a road leading to his resort and fill a paddy field, both in Alappuzha.
“The Chief Minister has the responsibility to bring out the truth of the corruption allegations on a Cabinet member. The truth should be revealed to the people. The State government should take immediate steps to do that,” Chennithala said at a press conference here.
Discontent is growing within Chandy’s own party NCP with some of its State leaders as well as its youth wing Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC) coming out against him seeking a probe.
The NYC state camp at its meeting in Kozhikode had even passed a resolution seeking a probe into the very construction of the road.
The Opposition Congress and the BJP too are crying foul as they allege the road belonging to the Lake Palace Resort, owned by Chandy, was tarred using Rs 28.5 lakh from the Harbour Engineering Department (HED) fund.
