Dileep was beside Appunni during phone conversation with Suni
text_fieldsKochi: Actor Dileep’s aide Sunilraj A S, alias Appunni, has told the police team probing the actress assault case that the actor was beside him during his phone conversation with Pulsar Suni, the key accused in the case.
Appunni, who appeared before the investigating team for questioning on Monday, revealed that he knew Suni from the time he was working as the driver of actor Mukesh.
According to police sources, Appunni has said that Dileep was beside him when he talked to Suni. “I pretended I did not know Suni as Dileep asked me to do so. It was Dileep who asked me to talk to Suni. I had told him whatever Suni told me over the phone,” said Appunni.
The actor's manager, however, denied he had any information about the conspiracy to assault the actress.
Appunni reached the Aluva Police Club at around 11 am on Monday for questioning following a directive from the police in this regard. He was allowed to leave the club at 5 pm after a lengthy interrogation.
The High Court had on July 28 rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
Rejecting his anticipatory bail plea, Justice Sunil Thomas had said that the complicity of the accused in the conspiracy can be revealed only after the interrogation by police investigating the case.
The Court, however, had directed that Appunni should not be harassed mentally or physically and that he can voluntarily surrender before the police investigation.
The Kerala High Court had earlier rejected the bail plea of Dileep, observing that prima facie there was material to suspect his involvement in the crime.
Dileep, charged under various sections of the IPC, including one for hatching criminal conspiracy for abduction and assault of the actress in a moving car on February 17, is currently lodged in a jail in his home town Aluva.
The actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and molested inside her car for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle and later escaped.
Six persons, including ‘Pulsar’ Suni, have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
