Thiruvananthapuram: An all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday decided not to impose ban on fireworks display at temples in the state.

“It has been decided not to impose ban, but put fruitful restriction on the fireworks display,” Chandy told reporters after the meeting.

He also said the government would approach the Kerala High Court to get relaxation to conduct Thrissur Pooram.

On Tuesday, the Kerala High Court had ordered strict enforcement of the provisions in the Explosive Rules, banning the use of high-decibel crackers and display of fireworks between the hours of sunset and sunrise, at places of worship in the State.

It was on early Sunday that an 'illegal' fireworks display was conducted as part of the annual celebrations of the temple that left 114 people dead, injuring over 350.
