Thiruvananthapuram: In Kerala’s capital, country bomb explosion injured three people on Wednesday, and a 17-year-old among them lost both hands. As per reports, a group of four were assembling the country bomb when the mishap occurred. Police have registered a case against the four for making a country bomb with the intention to hurt someone, The News Minute (TNM) reported.

Reports suggest that the minor, who lost his hands, is in critical condition. The remaining accused were identified as Akhilesh- who also sustained serious injuries- Kiran and Sarath. The last one escaped the accident unscathed.

According to the FIR, the group was illegally assembling a country bomb at Horizon Park in Thiruvananthapuram’s Neduman. The group were intending to harm someone. Police told the media that they had been involved in criminal activities even in the past and that further investigation was required to find out who they intended to target.

The Mannathala Police registered the case against them under section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 3(a) (unlawfully and maliciously caused by any explosive substance an explosion of a nature likely to endanger life or to cause serious injury to property) of the Explosive Substances Act and 9(B)(1)(a) and 9(B)(1)(b) of the Indian Explosive Act, 1884 (Amendment 2013 and 2014).

The injured were brought to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for treatment and the minor and Akhilesh are lodged in the casualty Red Zone. A forensics examination will be conducted at the explosion spot on Thursday, TNM reported.
