Indian wheat export increases, Government expresses happiness
text_fieldsThe government said that Indian farmers are gaining from increased exports of wheat and expressed happiness in the same. Indian wheat is meeting the large-scale demand surge caused by the Russia-Ukraine war.
An official statement said that more and more countries are giving market access to Indian wheat because of the ongoing crisis. Russia and Ukraine have been the largest exporters of wheat in the international markets. The supply has been interrupted due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Indian traders are buying wheat directly from farmers at higher prices. Farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat are selling to exporters at higher prices ranging from Rs 21-24. The MSP is Rs 20.15/kg. However, some farmers and traders are holding wheat back hoping for higher prices after a few months.
Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said the government is happy that Indian farmers are benefitting from the small window in the international market. However, Argentinean wheat is expected to hit the global market in June.
Egypt and Turkey have already given access to Indian wheat. Italy and France are also likely to grant access to India for wheat selling. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Exports Authority (APEDA) is going to take a delegation of traders to discuss wheat exports with some nations, said Pandey.
