New Delhi: Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh has decided to ban the sale and purchase of meat in the open along the route of Kanwar Yatra starting from July 22.

The decision comes while reviewing the preparedness of the law and order arrangements ahead of upcoming festivals, The Wire reported citing the news agency the Press Trust of India.

Yogi Adityanath directed officials that there should be ‘no open sale and purchase of meat’ on the Kanwar Yatra route ‘respecting the faith of devotees’.

An official statement by the government reportedly said: ‘The holy month of Shravan is starting from July 22. During this period, Shravani Shivratri, Nagpanchami and Rakshabandhan will be celebrated. Traditional Kanwar Yatra will be held. Besides, Jagannath Rath Yatra will be celebrated from July 7-9, Moharram on July 17-18, and Guru Purnima on July 21.’

Reviewing the arrangements, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to be ‘alert and cautious’ during the festivals.

He told officials that places including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Barabanki, Basti, and the districts near Uttarakhand are important in the traditional perspective of the Kanwar Yatra.

The Chief Minister also asked officials that oversized Tazias causing accidents should not be included during Muharram procession, adding that Tazias should be placed where there is no dispute.

Instructing further, he asked officials to ensure proper cleanliness especially around temples.
