Yes, I eat beef, there is no ban in Meghalaya: State BJP Chief
text_fieldsShillong: Ernest Mawrie, unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Meghalaya, said everybody eats beef in the state and there is no restriction on it.
Frankly admitting that he eats beef, Mawrie said that it is the lifestyle of the people of the state which no one can stop.
“In Meghalaya, we have a slaughterhouse, everybody takes a cow or pig and brings it to the market. It could be a hygienic one. So the people they have the habit," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.
Mawrie said that there is no such a rule in India either, adding that some states have passed some acts.
The BJP leader’s statement comes after Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who is the major face of BJP in North Eastern region urged people to restrict beef in Hindu majority areas, according to NDTV.
Ernest Mawrie termed allegations of political parties calling the BJP an anti-Christian party only a ‘political propaganda’.
‘Now the nine years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is running in the country and not even any church has been attacked or targeted in the country.’ He reportedly said.
Ernest Mawrie further said that Goa is ruled by the BJP but not a single church has been targeted and it is the same in Nagaland and everything else is all propaganda by Congress, TMC and other parties.
He said that the people of Meghalaya want a change and BJP will form the next government in Meghalaya.
