Sambhal/UP: A 'yagya' (a sacred Hindu Vedic ritual involving offerings to a consecrated fire) was held in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal on Thursday for Israel's victory in the ongoing conflict in West Asia, PTI reported.

This comes when the death toll in Iran after the US and Israel’s joint attack surpasses 1,000. Also, Israel is carrying out strikes in Lebanon, and around 77 people died there in the past four days.

From Sambhal, Kailash Chandra Gupta, district president of the Sanatan Seva Sangh, told reporters, "Today, a 'Yajna' was performed for the total eradication of terrorism, the establishment of peace in the world, and for the long life of Israel's Prime Minister, Netanyahu."

He also said that through the ‘yajna’, they want to convey the message that peace should be established in the world, and Israel should be victorious.

Manish Sharma, an official of the Sanatan Seva Sangh, said the 'Yajna' was performed for world peace, because India's tradition has been that of 'Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah'.

More than 200 people have been reported killed in Iran over the past 24 hours as the conflict in the Middle East entered its fifth day, leaving the region’s land, sea and air under heightened tension. On Wednesday, joint forces carried out a powerful attack on the Iranian capital, Tehran, intensifying strikes on strategic centres across the country. The attacks came as funeral ceremonies for slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were scheduled to begin on Wednesday evening. Reports said the presidential office in Tehran was targeted during the assault, while heavy bombing was also reported in the strategic region of Isfahan. Meanwhile, 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei is believed to be the country’s next supreme leader, though this remains unconfirmed. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that whoever assumes the post would face the same fate as Khamenei.
