Wrestlers write Sitharaman, Irani appealing to become their 'voice'
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The protesting wrestlers here wrote the Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitharaman, as well as 41 other women BJP leaders demanding justice. The women wrestlers, who were protesting against Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, appealed to the women ministers and MPs to become their voice, India Today reported on Sunday.
The letter says that they, the women wrestlers of India, have been sexually assaulted many times by the WFI chief during his long tenure.
Though sometimes wrestlers attempted to raise their voices against him, not only did they not attain justice, but also his power ruined their future. But now, the point arrived where the wrestlers cannot take in any more, and they have no choice but to fight for their dignity, the letter said.
"We have left our lives and sports aside and decided to fight for our dignity. We have been fighting for justice for the last 20 days at Jantar Mantar. As per our observations, his power has not only broken the backbone of the administration but also made our government deaf and blind," the letter added.
The women wrestlers told the addressees that the latter being women MPs of the ruling party, the former had strong hope that they would help them.
"Please become our voice and save our dignity. We also hope that you can spare some time to reach Jantar Mantar to guide us," the women wrestlers appealed.
The wrestlers' protest has reached its fourth week, and there is no end to their plight in sight, reports India Today. Earlier, they had demanded an FIR against Brij Bhushan, and the same was done with the Supreme Court's oversee.
However, the court has closed the proceeding on the matter after police registered an FIR against the WFI chief. So, the wrestlers decided to continue their protests, demanding the BJP leader's arrest.
