'Won't allow screening of Javed Akhtar films till he apologises': BJP MLA Ram Kadam
text_fieldsBJP MLA Ram Kadam on Saturday said that no film of lyricist-screen writer Javed Akhtar will be screened in India until he apologises with folded hands. His demand came after Mr Akhtar drew a parallel between the Taliban and right-wing organisations in India.
Kadam tweeted a video in which he asked: "If Taliban's ideology existed here, could he have made such statements? The answer to this question shows how hollow his [Akhtar's] remarks are."
"Until he apologises to the members of the Sangh with folded hands, we won't allow any of his or that of his family members' films to be screened in the land of Ma Bharti," added the BJP MLA.
Javed Akhtar on Friday told NDTV that it is time for people who support organisations like RSS, BHP, and Bajrang Dal to do some introspection. "Of course, Taliban are reprehensible… they are barbarians. But the people whom you are supporting, how are they different from them [the Taliban]?" he asked.
Akhtar has said that some people in India want segregation in the society and added that he saw an "uncanny resemblance" between the Taliban and people "who want to be like Taliban".
