Why can't sex stay in bedrooms?: Kangana Ranaut against Olympic opening act
text_fieldsNew Delhi: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut came down on the drag queen-themed parody performed at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, saying that the ‘Leftists totally hijacked the Olympics 2024’.
Kangana Ranaut called the act a "blasphemous rendition’ of Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci’s work ‘The Last Supper".
A nearly four-hour ceremony marked the opening of the Paris Olympics at the French capital on Friday.
The drag act featuring 18 performers, including three well-known Drag Race France queens, faced criticism online.
Taking to Instagram, the actor-turned-politician called it a "hyper-s*xualised" and "blasphemous rendition of The Last Supper".
She further wrote: ‘The Paris Olympics is under fire for including a *child* in their hyper-s*xualized, blasphemous rendition of The Last Supper. An apparent child could be seen joining the drag queens during the performance. They also showed a naked man painted blue as Jesus and mocked Christianity. Leftists totally hijacked the Olympics 2024. Shame.’
Claiming she is not against homosexuality, Kangana asked ‘This is beyond me how Olympics is related to any sexuality? Why games, sports participation of all nations to claim human excellence being taken over by sex? Why can't sex stay in our bedrooms?? Why it has to be a national identity?.. This is bizzare.’
The parody act saw a group including several drag queens sitting at a table reminiscent of the ‘Last Supper’, the final meal that Jesus was said to have taken with his apostles before crucifixion.
Lesbian activist DJ Barbara Butch who sat at the centre with a silver headdress resembling a halo composed the music for the act.
The act faced severe criticism on social media with people including Billionaire Elon Musk calling it "extremely disrespectful to Christians".
