New Delhi: AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi slammed RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat's comments that Muslims need not fear in India but abandon their "boisterous rhetoric of supremacy", The Indian Express reported.
On the Wednesday remarks by Bhagwat, opposition left parties raised their sharp criticism, but the Congress remained silent.
Owaisi asked who Bhagwat was to give Muslims permission to live in India or follow their faith. Muslims are Indian citizens because of Allah's will, and how could the RSS chief dare put conditions on their citizenships, he asked.
"We're not here to 'adjust' our faith or please a bunch of alleged celibates in Nagpur," the Indian Express quoted AIMIM chief.
Talking to RSS mouthpieces, Organiser and Panchjanya Bhagwat claimed that the new-found aggression among Hindus in India as well as elsewhere is because Hindu society has been at war for a thousand years and is now awakened under the RSS.
He claimed Muslims must ditch their "claim of supremacy" and Hindustan must remain Hindustan, which is "the simple truth".
Calling Bhagwat's remarks "atrocious", the CPI(M) said the comments constitute an open and blatant challenge to the Constitution of India, to equal rights of all citizens and to the rule of law.
CPI(M) politburo said that Bhagwat was threatening the Muslim minority that they must give up' supremacy' ideas to ensure their own safety. He justified the aggression among Hindu society, claiming they are at war, and thus he called for violence against a section of citizens in the country, it said.
The party further said that it is not the Hindu community but the "Hindutva brigades" who were inspired by the RSS ideology as well as backed by leaders like Bhagwat, who have created a sense of siege in Muslims. This was achieved through relentless attacks on their constitutional and legal rights at various levels.
The party added that the RSS chief's statements were an update to the hate-filled writings of RSS stalwarts Hegdewar and Golwalkar, who suggested that Muslims must accept a subordinate position to live in India.
CPI general secretary D Raja said, Bhagawat is the "self-appointed custodian of Indian society". He has violated the walls of the Constitution and legality through his statement, which exposed RSS's divisive agenda, D Raja said. He added that such provocations must be defeated with unity.
