Hyderabad: Lawmaker for Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi referred to the National Family Health survey to say that the total fertility rate of Muslims has declined to 2 per cent.

The leader of AIMIM was reacting to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's remark of community-based population imbalance in the nation.

Addressing a gathering here, he asked Bhagwat not to fret over population imbalance, because Muslim population is not increasing but falling.

Owaisi took a dig at Bhagwat saying Muslims are using condoms the most, and requested him to read Qur'an where, he said, Allah says killing a foetus a big sin and in order for the gap between two pregnancies condoms are mostly used.

Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday called for comprehensive population control policy applicable to all social groups equally to counter what he said "demographic imbalance".

He added that community-based "population imbalance" is an important subject and not to be ignored.

Owaisi referred to an affidavit the Modi government filed in the Supreme Court in 2020 stating that compulsion regarding family planning cannot be done, and he added that Mohan Bhagwat says population in increasing, according to India Today.

Owaisi criticized the Uttar Pradesh government's order for a survey of madrasas and waqf board properties in the state, alleging that madrassas are targeted in the nation.
