Viral Dubai job post alleging anti-Muslim hiring bias sparks online outrage

A viral social media post claiming a recruiter rejected a job applicant for a Dubai-based job for being Muslim has ignited widespread online outrage, raising concerns over workplace discrimination and recruitment fraud.

The controversy erupted after screenshots posted on Instagram appeared to show a recruiter named "Harshiya" reaching out to a candidate regarding a customer care representative role in Dubai. In the exchange, the recruiter asked if the applicant was Muslim. Upon receiving an affirmative answer, the recruiter allegedly replied, “Not hiring Muslims due to Company terms.”

The post quickly circulated across platforms, drawing fierce backlash from users who condemned the statement, pointing out the absurdity and illegality of alleged anti-Muslim bias in a Muslim-majority nation like the UAE. Many demanded an immediate explanation from the company referenced in the advert, which listed standard benefits such as an employment visa, housing, transportation, and medical coverage.

However, the authenticity of the screenshots has not been independently verified. It remains unclear whether the exchange was genuine or if the individual involved was an authorized representative of the firm.

In response to general recruitment integrity concerns, corporate hiring guidelines—including those of major firms like Capgemini—emphasize that job decisions are strictly merit-based and urge applicants to beware of fraudulent recruiters operating through unauthorized channels. Neither the company named in the post nor local authorities have issued an official statement confirming the legitimacy of the interaction.
