Bengaluru: A vigilant villager discovered a newborn child who had been buried alive in Bengaluru's Sarjapur neighbourhood on Monday. The police claim that the infant was likely buried for two to three hours before being found, but they have not yet located the accused or his parents.

The baby was discovered partially buried by a villager who had gone to attend to a nature call at Katriguppe Dinne village, within the boundaries of the Sarjapur police station, at approximately nine in the morning.

After saving the infant, the villager alerted others, who subsequently contacted the Sarjapur police, the Indian Express reported.

The infant was either born on Sunday or Monday, according to a police officer. According to the police, someone from outside the region may have gone to bury the baby but left because they were afraid of being discovered.

The infant was moved to the Bommasandra government hospital to receive medical attention. The district child protection unit was notified to take custody of the child, according to the police officer.

The Sarjapura police have taken up a case and are further investigating. “We are also checking if any newborn baby is missing from the hospital in the neighbouring areas,” said the police officer.
