Video: Mumbai vendor sells fake garlic made of cement
text_fieldsMumbai: A viral video exposed fake garlic being sold in a market in Maharashtra’s Akola. The garlic shown in the video was coated with cement and looked real, made to fool customers. In Akola, a street vendor was selling a cement version of garlic along with real ones.
The incident came to light after a retired police officer’s wife bought some garlic from a local vegetable vendor. The wife of the retired officer Subhash Patil, residing in Bajoria Nagar of Akola, bought 250 grams of garlic, which led to bringing the scam to the public. After buying the vegetable, she tried to peel it for cooking and noticed with shock that she had been scammed.
She couldn’t separate the cloves. The video that went viral on social media showed that some garlic is fake, made out of cement and looks confusingly real, The Free Press Journal reported. The video showed a person peeling off a real garlic and then trying to peel off a fake one.
According to Free Press Journal, it is not clear whether any action has been taken against the scammer so far over the issue.
