Bishalgarh: A Muslim boy of studying Class 10 has been subjected to a physical attack while objecting to an attempt by right-wing men to prevent Muslim girls from entering a school wearing hijab in Tripura's Bishalgarh subdivision of Sepahijala district.

The victim was brutally beaten up after he voiced his objection to the right-wing group's stance on hijabs.

It has been reported that the teachers and headmaster took no action as the boy was dragged and beaten up by individuals affiliated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, failing to intervene and rescue the boy. The incident sparked outrage among locals, who blocked roads in protest.

Outrage and condemnation quickly spread throughout the community, leading to road blockades and protests by locals who demanded justice for the victim.

Local sources indicate that the assailants were outsiders and not affiliated with the school. According to school authorities, the incident was preceded by a visit from a group of former students claiming allegiance to a right-wing organization, specifically the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

This group had expressed concerns about the hijab-wearing Muslim girls and sought the school's intervention to ban the practice, citing non-compliance with government-prescribed uniforms.

The headmaster, Priyatosh Nandi, revealed that due to the absence of clear directives from the concerned government department regarding the matter, he had verbally advised students against wearing hijabs. However, this decision led to a tense atmosphere that eventually boiled over into violence.

Police have since taken control of the situation and reportedly urged not to make it a communal issue. A case has been registered, and the police are actively investigating the matter to bring the culprits to justice.
