Dehradun: In another incident of a Hindutva group barging into the house of a Muslim family and damaging property on the occasion of Eid, a case was registered under the BNS sections of “rioting” and “acts against national integration” in Uttarakhand’s Rishikesh. The case was registered against the local functionary of the right-wing group and 25 unidentified people, who broke and entered the locked Muslim house on Wednesday when the occupants went to their native place for Eid, Times of India reported.

As per the case registered, the accused also threatened others in the neighbourhood to leave Uttarakhand or be killed. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Shyampur checkpost in-charge, sub-inspector Yogesh Chand Khumriyal. He had responded to an ‘SOS’ and reached the location along with more police personnel.

The complaint said the accused people raised provocative slogans and told the residents to leave the place or be chopped. The house which was vandalised belonged to one Sher Mohammad, whose son Shoaib was accused in a rape case. Shoaib was arrested and sent to jail by a local court on June 8.

The complainant said that the accused had damaged valuables in the house but had left the place after seeing the police. However, the complainant said the entire incident had been recorded on the phone.

Police took suo-motu cognisance of the incident and registered a case against accused Harish Rawat and 25 others under sections 191 (2) (rioting), 197(1) (acts against national integration), 324 (4) (mischief causing loss or damage) and 331 (4) (house-breaking committed at night...) of BNS.
