New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praising India's vaccination drive, said that it had given great strength to the country's fight against Covid-19 and saved many lives and livelihoods, PTI reports. The PM tweeted when the country's vaccination drive completed one year on Sunday.

PM further said that not much was known regarding the virus, but scientists immersed themselves in developing vaccines. India is proud that it has contributed much towards fighting the pandemic through vaccines.

He said that he salutes all those individuals who are associated with the vaccination drive. He praised the doctors, nurses and health workers. When these frontline workers are sighted taking vaccine supplies to remote areas, our hearts and minds fill with pride, he added.

Further, he tweeted that India's resistance against the pandemic will be science-based. Health infrastructure is being augmented to ensure citizens' proper care. He asked people to keep Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.

So far, the country has administered 156.76 crore vaccine doses. The Health Ministry has informed that more than 92 per cent of India's adult population has been inoculated with at least one dose and 68 per cent got two doses. The Union government issued a postal stamp on Sunday, marking one year of vaccination drive in the country.
