Meerut/UP: Footage today showed an elderly woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut taking her son’s body on a cart for hours to a crematorium.

She made do with a cart after finding no hearse vehicle and was helped out by her younger son, India Today reported.

She was seen requesting people to help arrange the last rites for the deceased.

The deceased Raju was found dead near a wine shop on Tuesday.

His body lay there for hours before his mother and younger brother came looking for him.

They pulled the cart with the body on it for hours and passers-by did not respond to their request for help.

It was then Police sub-inspector Amit Kumar Malik came to their help raising money and arranging last rites.

The police said the family shifted to Meerut from Etawah district seeking work.

Meanwhile Meerut’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Akhilesh Mohan ordered a probe into the incident after the video went viral.

‘In all hospitals in our district, hearse vehicles are available. If a case like this comes up, we make the vehicle available to them (family). I have ordered an inquiry into this incident and we will speak after we get a report,’ Dr Mohan reportedly said.
