AKTU students approach SC against offline examinations

A group of students at the Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Uttar Pradesh have filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking to stop the university conducting exams in the offline mode due to difficulties experienced by the students. They have termed it as a violation of Article 14 and 21A of the Constitution.

"The students neither have books nor any resources to prepare for the off-line exams as they did not attend their respective colleges since march 2020 and never got books issued from the library so that they can prepare their notes properly," the plea was quoted as saying by LiveLaw. A notification circular was issued by AKTU on January 25 calling for offline examinations.

In addition to this, students also pointed out that the university was not willing to take any precautions for the health and safety of students, pointing out that consent forms sent to parents and guardians imposed the risk entirely on students and their families. Moreover, many students from far-off areas like Jammu and Kashmir are finding it difficult to appear for offline exams, the students claimed.

The plea filed requests that provisions be made for online examinations in accordance with the methods adopted by various other universities in India as the students were better prepared for examinations this way.
