Uttar Pradesh: Muslim student and anti-CAA activist Afreen Fatima on Friday alleged that her father, mother, and sister were picked up by the Allahabad police Friday night, without any notice or warrant, Maktoob Media reported.

Afreen has filed a complaint at the National Women's Commission asking for intervention.

"We are writing with urgent concern for the safety of my father Javed Mohd, mother Parveen Fatima, and sister Sumaiya Fatima who was picked up by the Allahabad police yesterday, without any notice or warrant, and whose whereabouts we are unable to find out for the last several hours," the complaint read.

According to the report, the arrest occurred right after a massive protest against Hindutva politicians stirred up in Uttar Pradesh.

"This was in clear contradiction to Section 46(4) of CrPC as the arrest or detention was made after sunset and no papers were provided showing approval of such an arrest or detention, with reasons, by a Judicial Magistrate as per the mandate of the law," added Afreen in her complaint.

The Kotwali police initially arrested her father Javed Mohd, who is also the leader of the national welfare party at night around 8:50 pm on Friday.

A few hours later, at about 12:00 am some police officers went to her house again and took her elderly mother who is also diabetic, and one younger sister with them, asking them to come along with their phones.

Later around 2 am on Saturday, the police asked all the members of the family to go along with the cops to the police station, to which the family disagreed as there was no warrant signaling the arrest.

The police who later vacated the family members and locked the door of the house threatened to burn the house without giving any reason.

Afreen who was an elected student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union is currently a natIonal secretary of Fraternity Movement.
