New Delhi: According to Uttar Pradesh police, a man was detained for killing his wife after looking up "how to commit a murder" on Google. Vikas, the defendant, originally gave police false information about a robbery to divert their attention, but police later discovered evidence on his phone that implicated him and his girlfriend.

The police were informed by Vikas, a resident of Modinagar in Ghaziabad, that his wife, Sonia, had been robbed on Friday on the National Highway close to Hapur. Police arrived at the scene and discovered Sonia had a slit throat; they then took Vikas into custody to question him about the incident, NDTV reported.

Police discovered incriminating internet searches, such as "how to commit a murder," when they searched Vikas' phone. In addition, he attempted to purchase poison from the online retailer Flipkart and looked for weapons dealers on Google.

Vikas and his wife started fighting over his extramarital affairs a few years after they got married, according to Hapur SP Deepak Bhukar, and their arguments eventually led to his planning to kill Sonia on Friday.

Vikas has been arrested, according to the police, and his girlfriend will be detained shortly. For the police team and the team who reported this occurrence, a reward of 25,000 has been announced.
