Bareilly: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly lost her legs and a hand after two men hurled her before a moving train when she tried to stop them from sexually harassing her.

The girl, who has also suffered multiple fractures in the attack, has been admitted to a hospital where her condition is said to be critical.

The incident took place on Tuesday night in the CB Ganj area of Bareilly City when the girl, an intermediate student, was returning home from her tuition class.

The victim’s father alleged that a youth and his companion used to harass his daughter when she went to class in the evenings.

He said that he had even complained about this to the family of the accused and to the police but they did not even bother to visit their village to investigate the matter.

On Tuesday, the girl was found in a pool of blood with her legs and one hand amputated near the Khadau railway crossing. She was rushed to a hospital in Izzatnagar later in the night where the doctors performed surgery.

Bareilly District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar told reporters that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the matter and assistance of Rs 5 lakh will be provided to the girl's family.

Considering the seriousness of her condition, she is being shifted to a higher medical centre. The government will bear the entire cost of her treatment, Kumar said.

Hospital Director Dr OP Bhaskar said the girl's legs were amputated below the knee. She also lost a hand in the incident.

He said that her condition is worrying and efforts are being made to save her life.

One person has been arrested in this connection. The CB Ganj police station inspector in-charge, a sub-inspector, and two constables were suspended for negligence and a departmental inquiry was ordered by Senior Superintendent of Police Chandrabhan.
