UP: 1 dead, 24 injured in vehicle pile-up amid dense fog
text_fieldsBareilly: At least 20 vehicles were involved in a massive pile-up on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on Sunday morning amid dense fog, leaving one person dead and 24 others injured, police said.
According to Radheshyam, SHO of Faridpur Police Station, the accident occurred when a state roadways bus travelling from Gorakhpur to Meerut collided with a truck. Poor visibility caused several vehicles following behind to crash into one another.
Three roadways buses, a truck, and multiple cars were damaged in the accident. One truck veered off the highway and crashed into roadside trees, while several other vehicles slid off the road, the SHO added.
The co-driver of the bus, Rahul (35), a resident of Muzaffarnagar district, succumbed to his injuries at the Faridpur Community Health Centre. The bus driver, Atar Singh, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment, police said.
Among the injured, four are reported to be in critical condition, while several others were treated and discharged after receiving first aid, the SHO added.
The accident caused long traffic snarls on both carriageways of the highway. Police teams reached the site promptly and carried out rescue operations, restoring traffic after approximately half an hour.
