This year's Budget assumes significance as the Centre has to play a balancing act between inducing fiscal expansion, giving demand stimulus and maintaining the deficit under control.
Sitharaman, who had in her first budget in 2019 replaced leather briefcase that had been for decades used for carrying budget documents with a traditional red cloth 'bahi-khata', had earlier this month stated that the budget for the fiscal year beginning April will be "like never before".

Poll-bound state gets major share in NH projects
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday proposed the construction of 8,500 km highway by March 2022.
Four poll-bound states - Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam - got a major chunk of the proposed new highway projects.
Assembly elections in these four states along with Puducherry will be held later this year.
