Ukraine: SOS from Indian students stranded in underground bunker
text_fieldsAmong the thousands of appeals sent by stranded nationals for their safe return, an Indian student in a Ukrainian bunker published an SOS. "We have been trapped here for over 24 hours without food, water, or proper ventilation," she said.
In a dimly lit room full of fellow students, Meghna from Bengaluru shot the video message.
She said, "We have many people here who have come from many places in India. We need help from the Indian government but we see nobody taking action from any higher official. We have been living in this bunker for a very long time, it has been really painful."
Social media has been flooded with videos of students appealing for the government to ensure their safe return after the Russia attack worsened the situation in Ukraine.
A friend, Raksha, whose worry in her voice is evident in the video, joins her in pleading for help, saying, "Kindly help us, please evacuate all the Indian students stuck in Ukraine".
The Ukraine is currently hosting a large number of Indians, mostly students.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, India's foreign secretary, said India is focusing on evacuating its citizens still stuck in Ukraine after Russian forces attacked the country by land, air and sea.
According to him, experts from Ukraine's foreign ministry have been sent to Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania's land borders as part of their effort to provide aid to Indian nationals. Russia launched missile attacks on Kiev and other cities across Ukraine in the largest attack on a European nation since World War II.
