Two more flyovers projects announced in Delhi to manage traffic
text_fieldsThe Delhi government approved two new corridor and flyover projects in east and west Delhi to manage traffic jams. Both projects together are worth Rs 724.36 crore.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia approved the projects in a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC). He said lakhs of commuters will benefit from the construction of this flyover and corridor. "The Kejriwal government is working on war footing to identify traffic hotspots in the city and decongest them".
The construction of a corridor between Punjabi Bagh flyover and Raja Garden flyover is worth Rs 352.32 crore. It is an important part of the ring road connecting south Delhi, Gurugram, and other parts of the NCR with north Delhi. The flyover between Anand Vihar RoB to Apsara Border RoB is worth Rs 372.04 crore.
The one-way flyovers and low-capacity intersections in the area are known to create heavy traffic jams. This has been a problem for both commuters as well as nearby residents. The new corridor is expected to decongest the traffic as it will have a six-lane elevated corridor from ESI Hospital to the existing Club Road.
The six-lane elevated corridor between Anand Vihar and Apsara Border will have two up-down ramps to improve connectivity. It will also have cycle lanes and multi-utility zones.
In an attempt to end traffic jams and make the commute between central and south Delhi easier, the Delhi public works department (PWD) had recently decided to make the Mathura Road stretch traffic signal-free. This is part of the ongoing Pragati Maidan corridor redevelopment project. The U-turn underpasses will also provide direct connectivity to Pragati Maidan parking.
