Two more AMMA panel members resign over the decision to accept Vijay Babu's letter
text_fieldsTwo more members of the AMMA internal complaints committee - Kukku Parameshwaran and Shwetha Menon - tendered their resignation after the organisation decided to accept actor Vijay Babu's letter that he wished to temporarily step down from the panel.
On Monday, one of the members of ICC, Mala Parvathy quit over the same decision. The women members are upset that their recommendation to slack Vijay Babu from the AMMA executive committee was ignored.
The ICC had given a recommendation after the meeting on April 27 that Babu should be sacked as an FIR has been registered against him. They alleged that the male-dominated AMMA panel decided to accept the letter from Babu.
Vijay Babu is facing rape charges and has allegedly fled to Dubai. The police are contemplating steps to see if his passport can be cancelled. They have not been able to take him into custody or interrogate him yet.
The Kerala High Court heard his anticipatory bail plea on Friday and posted the case for after the summer recess. Babu in his plea claimed that the victim is trying to blackmail him. Babu stated that he has all the evidence including messages between him and the victim. He added that he is ready to submit the chats before the court to prove his innocence.
The victim, an actress from Kozhikode, filed the complaint in Ernakulam on April 22. She said that she was raped and beaten up by Vijay Babu a few times at a flat in Kochi. She alleged that Babu got her intoxicated before abusing her.
Soon after the complaint was reported in the media, Babu claimed on a social media live that he is the real victim. He disclosed the name of the actress and said appropriate legal steps will be taken against her.
The police have registered a complaint against Vijay Babu for disclosing the name of the victim.
AMMA vice-president Maniyan Pillai Raju had brushed off Parvathy's indication that Swetha Menon and Cuckoo Parameshweran would quit. Another AMMA member criticised the way Raju spoke and said he did not speak in a manner befitting the post he held.
