Two moral policing cases registered in Mangaluru in 24 hours

Two moral policing cases where miscreants targeted couples and assaulted them have been reported from Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka in the past 24 hours. Two persons have been arrested in connection with one case on Saturday.

In the first incident, a group of young men on Friday evening stopped a car travelling towards Malluru. A young man and his female friend from another religion were travelling in the car. The crowd stopped the car and asked the man why he was travelling with a woman of a different religion. An argument broke out, and the mob assaulted the young man with bottles and escaped. The victim who suffers head injuries after being hit by a bottle is hospitalized. His condition is reportedly serious.

In the second case, two college-going students from a private college near Vamanjoor were travelling on a bus. The conductor of the bus and a group of vigilantes assaulted the boy, accusing him of misbehaving with the girl. They were later made to board different buses by the accused. The video clips of the incident have gone viral on social media.

The police have taken up the assault case involving the bus conductor and others suo moto, Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar informed. Two persons have been arrested in the case thus far.
