Security forces killed two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in an encounter in Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Kashmir Zone Police tweeted that the dead have been identified as categorised local terrorists of LeT. The encounter took place very close to the Amarnath Yatra route.

The police official told PTI that the security forces received information about the presence of terrorists. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Nawapora in the Mir Bazaar area of Kulgam. The search operation turned into an encounter.

After the Amarnath Yatra resumed after two years, heavy security arrangements were put in place for a secure pilgrimage. The 43-day journey is expected to have high footfall.

Mountains and hill peaks on the way to the Amarnath cave from Pahalgam and Baltal route are covered by border security forces and the Indian Army. A 48-km trek from Nunwan to the cave shrine from Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

The Amarnath cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,756 ft). The site is said to be an example of religious harmony because the devotees are provided with sticks, woolen caps, sweaters, and plastic boots by Muslims. Local Kashmiri Muslims are also in charge of repairing the road leading to the cave. The sale of weather-appropriate gear is also a crucial part of the economy.
