Trishul tattoo on a woman’s headless corpse helped Mumbai police arrest murderer

Mumbai: A tattoo of trishul (trident), damru (pellet drum) and Om (in Hindi) helped the police crack the mystery in the murder of Anjali Singh, The Indian Express reported.

The indelible tattoo on the 23-year-old’s hand helped the police track down Mintu Singh and his brother Chunchun, who are facing charges now.

Anjali Singh was beheaded, her headless body was stuffed in a suitcase before flinging into the sea.

Both the accused were under the impression that they had covered up everything to the hilt.

But they overlooked the tattoo on her hand which eventually led the police to trace them, according to the report.

On June 2 at about 8 am workers cleaning Uttan Beach in the coastal town of Uttan in Maharashtra’s Thane district spotted a bag.

Obviously they must not have been prepared for what was waiting for them in the bag.

Inside was the body of a woman cut into two pieces, workers immediately alerted the police, according to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police.

Police found a tattoo on her left arm which they thought would help identify the woman.

Now police questioned 40 tattoo artists before finding the one who had done it.

The police learnt that the woman was Anjali Singh, a resident of Naigaon.

Up on arriving at her home, police found that her husband Mintu( 31), who was a security guard hailing from Bihar, was missing.

Police picked him when he was about to board a train from Dadar railway station on June 9.

Mintu confessed to the murder he committed on May 24 following a fight with Anjali, suspecting her of having an extra-marital affair, according to the report.

She died after he hit on head during the fight and afterwards he sought the help of his elder brother Chunchun (35) in disposing of Anjali’s body.

Mintu had left his one-year-old daughter at Anjali' s parents’ home in Nepal.

He was arrested when he returned to Mumbai to pack rest of his belongings.
