Trinamool MP Derek O'Brien calls out Union Govt for rushing through bills
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Trinamool MP Derek O'Brien said that the Union government is rushing through bills in the Parliament session "at an average time of under seven minutes per bill". He sarcastically compared the process to "making paprichaat".
He tweeted that PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah rushed through and passed 12 bills for the first time. He accused the government of violating the "sanctity of parliament".
The Rajya Sabha MP shared a graphic listing the bills passed through both Houses of Parliament. The data showed that each bill was passed within minutes of it being introduced. The Coconut Development Board bill was passed in one minute. And the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority of India Bill was passed in 14 minutes, which was the maximum time.
The BJP government hasn't yet reacted to the tweet.
In 2019, MP O'Brien had slammed the Centre for rushing the passing of the triple talaq bill and compared it to delivering pizzas.
The opposition parties have been demanding that the Union Government address the new farm laws and the Pegasus rows in the monsoon session. The Centre has claimed a loss of Rs 133 crore due to the disruptions in the monsoon session.
The opposition parties have presented a united front in the Pegasus snooping scandal and demanded an independent inquiry. Houses were disrupted multiple times over both issues.
