Trinamool Congress has demanded an unconditional apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for calling BJP youth activist Arjun Chaurasia's death a murder before an autopsy is conducted. The post-mortem report of Command hospital said the reasons for the death were antemortem.

The autopsy report submitted to the Calcutta High Court's division bench noted that the reason for death was the choking of the windpipe due to hanging. The presence of lasso marks around the neck was also mentioned in the report.

The ruling party of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress had alleged that Chaurasia's death was a suicide. The report backs the claim. BJP leaders maintain the reason behind the death cannot be determined as suicide for sure unless the viscera report is made available. This will prove whether Chaurasia was intoxicated before death.

On May 6, Shah had called the death "political murder', alleged Chandrima Bhattacharya, state Finance Minister and Dr Sashi Panja, state Women and Child Development minister. Panja at a press conference said such irresponsible comments from the Union Home Minister are not acceptable.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice, Prakash Srivastava ordered the autopsy report and other related documents to be submitted to the special investigation report (SIT) of Kolkata Police.

Kolkata Police has formed a four-member team to probe BJYM activist Arjun Chaurasia's death and they are currently trying to examine Chaurasia's cell phone. BJP had demanded a CBI intervention in the matter. His body was found hanging at an abandoned building in the city's Kashipur area. His family claimed that Chaurasia was threatened with dire consequences by unknown people before going missing on Thursday night.

The incident has triggered rallies and protests across the state seeking an impartial probe. TMC leader Joyprakash Majumdar alleged that there was a possibility of evidence destruction by a section of BJP workers.
