Tragic school bus accident in Kerala: class 5 student killed, 13 injured
text_fieldsIn a devastating incident in Kerala's Kannur district, an 11-year-old Class 5 student lost her life after the school bus she was traveling in flipped over on Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 4 PM in Valakkai, Sreekantapuram, when a bus belonging to Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kurumathur Panchayat, lost control while descending a slope to join a highway. The bus, carrying 15 students home after school, overturned, leading to the tragic death of 11-year-old Nedya S. Rajesh.
According to reports, the child was thrown out of the bus and crushed under its wheels. Local sources allege that a brake failure caused the driver to lose control, but police have stated that a detailed investigation is underway.
Thirteen other students sustained injuries and were rushed to Taliparamba Taluk Hospital with the help of local residents. Nedya’s body has been moved to the Government Medical College in Pariyaram for further procedures.
The police have registered a case against the bus driver under sections 281 (rash driving), 125(A) (endangering life or personal safety), and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Local residents have voiced their concerns about the safety of the road, blaming its "unscientific design" for frequent accidents in the area. No comments have been issued by the school authorities regarding the incident.
