Tour bus carrying 55 people plunges off a curve killing 8 in TN
text_fieldsChennai: At least 8 people were killed and several injured when a tour bus plunged off a road in Tamil Nadu’s Niligiris district.
The 55 passengers aboard the bus were on their way to Tenkasi when the bus fell into a ravine at a hairpin bend near Coonoor, NDTV reported.
The driver of the bus lost control while turning around the bend and the bus toppled over in the impact.
Locals, police and fire officials rushed to the aid of the victims and rescued the injured using ropes, NDTV reported.
As the investigation is underway into the accident, preliminary report suggests that the driver lost control at the curve, with Superintendent of Police saying that ‘ the driver appears to be at fault’.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin condoled with the family of the victims and offered a compensation of ₹ 2 lakh for the bereaved families and 50,000 for those injured.
