Amidst countrywide reports of police excesses in the name of lockdown restrictions, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police C Sylendra Babu on Friday asked police personnel to be polite with the public during night curfew and the lockdown on Sunday. He further asked police personnel to wear gloves mandatorily and sanitise their hands regularly during checking.

Night checks must be conducted at properly lit places, the guidelines for police personnel in the state said. Night barricades must be erected, and personnel must wear reflector jackets, it adds.

Candidates appearing for competitive exams can travel if they show their admission cards. Suppliers of milk, gas and other essential items are allowed to travel after checking identity. Food delivery is permitted from 7 am to 10 pm even during the lockdown. Government employees, bank staffers, public transport, and local bodies are also allowed to travel.

People on way to airports, railway stations, and bus stations in their own vehicles or taxis must also be permitted on showing their tickets, he added.
