Times World University rankings 2021: Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University among top Indian Universities.
text_fieldsJamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim Universities have made it to the list of the top Indian Universities in the Times World University Rankings 2021. Both the universities have made it to the 601-800 bracket.
With improvements in the rankings, Jamia stands at the 12th while AMU stands at 19th. Earlier, the universities were placed at 19th and 24th position, respectively.
Vice-chancellors of both the Universities have expressed their happiness over the performance of the universities, Vice-Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Najma Akhtar has said that the performance reflected JMI's growing international presence and outreach besides its impetus on high-quality research, publications, and teaching. Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University attributed the achievement to high-quality teaching, relevant and focused research of the 'highest quality' and improved perception of the university. "Being ranked in six disciplines in 2021 rankings is a clear indication of all-round improvement," Prof. Mansoor said. Both vice-chancellors expect the universities to improve their rankings in the coming years.
A total of 1527 institutions from 93 countries were assessed by Times Higher Education this year. The number of Indian Institutions assessed this year increased to 63 out of which only the Indian Institute of Science has made it to the top hundred universities.
This year, all top 10 institutions are from the United States and the United Kingdom, with the University of Oxford standing at the first position worldwide.
Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 has considered five parameters for assessing universities: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Industry Income (2.5%) and International Outlook (7.5%).
Earlier, this year JMI was at the 10th (overall 16th) position in India in the University rankings provided by the Ministry of Education's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), AMU stood at 17th (overall 31st).
