In Assam, where elections to two seats in the upper house of parliament were held today, the Congress is possibly on the verge of losing a Rajya Sabha seat to the BJP.

The opposition-led Congress has suspended a MLA for writing "One" instead of "1" on the ballot paper, throwing the opposition's candidate's vote count down.

Ripun Bora's prospects have been hampered by Siddique Ahmed's suspension as a Congress MLA and former minister.

According to the Congress, Siddique Ahmed deliberately disobeyed the three-line whip.

The Rajya Sabha elections were held today in Assam. The BJP's Pabitra Margherita is running unopposed in the first Rajya Sabha seat.

AIUDF supported Mr. Bora.
