The body was intentionally dragged by the car for 20kms: eyewitness
text_fieldsNew Delhi: In the case of a girl being hit by a car while she was on her scooty and her body being dragged for kilometres here, a claimed eyewitness has a story of intentional brutality, Asian News International reported.
Hours into New Year, the girl was hit by a car, and her body got tangled in the underside of the car and was dragged for kilometres. Police have informed the condition of the body was very bad, that after being dragged, her clothes and the back side of her body got ripped off.
A confectionary shop owner Deepak Dahiya on Kanjhawala Road in Ladpur village alleged that the accused car goers intentionally dragged the body for 18 to 20 kilometres in one and a half hours.
He told ANI that he was outside his shop around 3:20 in the morning and heard the loud voice of the scooter being hit some 100m away. After the car moved and ran drove away, he saw a body entangled and being dragged. He said that he immediately informed the police.
He continued that after some 10 minutes, the car was back after a U-turn, and he saw the body of the woman still stuck under the vehicle. The accused kept driving the car taking repeated U-turns for about 4-5 kilometres, the witness alleged.
He said that he tried to stop the vehicle many times but in vain, and the car kept driving for one and a half hours, carrying the body for about 20km. He chased the car with his bike and was in contact with the police, he said.
The body fell next to Jyoti village on Kanjhawala Road, and the accused fled, he alleged, adding that the incident was not just an accident.
The deceased woman's family alleged that the 20-year-old was sexually assaulted.
The car, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno, was carrying five men, who included a credit card collection agent, a driver and a ration shop owner. Police have arrested all five.
ANI reported that at 3.24 am, the police control received a call that a car was seen dragging a body. At 4.11 am, another call informed the control room that a woman's body was lying on the road. The deceased is identified as Anjali and a resident of Aman Vihar. She was living with her mother, four sisters and two brothers. Her father had died some years ago.
