Thakur hoon, yahin thok denge: HDFC staffers caste slur at customer goes viral
cancel

Uttar Pradesh: A viral video of an HDFC Bank employee aggressively abusing a customer has ignited online fury over unprofessionalism and casteism, with netizens split and the bank yet to respond.

The clip shows staffer Astha Singh responding to a calm customer with rage, boasting: “I am a Thakur... Bachhodi mat karna... yahi pe thok denge” (“I'm a Thakur... don't mess around... we'll thrash you right here”). Colleagues intervene as she escalates, but she persists.

Social media erupted. Critics slammed her conduct: one tagged HDFC Bank, "@HDFC_Bank this is your customer service. Castism is your core agenda." Supporters defended her: "She’s absolutely right; a woman shouldn’t stay silent for the sake of self-respect she should always raise her voice. Society is always quick to suppress. The girls from Brahmin, Thakur and Vaishya communities are brimming with self-respect, so it’s natural for anger to arise. Being a customer doesn’t mean you can say whatever you please." Another noted, “She’s saying this because she’s in UP.”

HDFC Bank has issued no statement amid the backlash.
