Telangana BJP MLA arrested over remark on Prophet
text_fieldsHyderabad: Months after Nupur Sharma row, Telangana BJP MLA T Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday for making alleged derogatory remarks against the Prophet Muhammad.
As protests broke out on Monday night in Hyderabad, a case was filed against T Raja Singh after he released a video talking about the Prophet.
The protesters gathered in front of city police commissioner CV Anand's office demanding the arrest of Sigh saying that the BJP MLA hurt the sentiments of the community.
Police took the protesters into custody at the commissioner's office in Basheer Bagh and shifted them to several police stations.
It all started after the BJP MLA released a video against comedian Munawar Faruqui who staged a show in Hyderabad last week.
Raja Sigh was placed under house arrested after he threatened to burn down the set at the venue.
Raja Singh said Munavar Faruqui had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and in his video Singh allegedly made derogatory remarks on the Prophet.
Responding to the charges against him, Singh asked why an FIR had been filed against him when jokes had also been made about Hindu religious figures.
Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remark on the Prophet caused widespread criticism and as many as 10 cases were filed against her across the country.
