Telangana phone-tapping case: CM Revanth Reddy likely to be named witness in supplementary chargesheet

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police are preparing to file a supplementary chargesheet by the end of August in the high-profile Telangana phone-tapping case. As part of the ongoing probe, investigators are considering recording a statement from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, whose phone was allegedly intercepted during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) administration.
The case was originally registered at the Punjagutta Police Station on March 10, 2024, shortly after the Congress government assumed power. Filed under the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the investigation revolves around allegations that Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) officials systematically monitored politicians, judges, bureaucrats, journalists, and real estate developers.
An initial chargesheet submitted in June 2024 named six key accused: former SIB chief T. Prabhakar Rao, DSP D. Praneeth Rao, Additional SPs N. Bhujanga Rao and M. Thirupathanna, former Task Force OSD P. Radha Kishan Rao, and businessman A. Shravan Kumar. Four of the police officers remain in custody, while Prabhakar Rao—who initially left for the United States—surrendered in December 2025 and underwent an extensive eight-hour interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The SIT investigation has drawn in prominent leaders from the BRS. Former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), former minister T. Harish Rao, and former MP J. Santosh Kumar have all been summoned to the SIT office at Jubilee Hills to give statements.
Investigators have so far recorded statements from over 600 witnesses, including political figures and bureaucrats. Police officials are currently matching witness statements with documentary and digital evidence. The forthcoming supplementary chargesheet is expected to introduce fresh evidence, detail the scope of the surveillance operations, and potentially name additional accused based on findings gathered since mid-2024.
