Teen who apologised to Modi faces rape threats, no probe yet

A teenage girl who apologised to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged abusive remarks made during the Jantar Mantar student protests is now facing online rape threats, even as Delhi Police and Noida Police say no investigation is currently underway. The case has not yet seen an FIR or formal probe on the threats, with both police forces appearing to pass responsibility to each other.
The girl, a resident of Noida in Uttar Pradesh, alleged that her phone number was leaked and that unknown individuals have been threatening her with rape. She told IANS that the threats included warnings such as, “Wherever you are spotted, we will rape you and throw you in some ditch.”
She also said police personnel have been visiting her home repeatedly, including on August 2. According to reports, Noida Police said the matter had been transferred to Delhi Police, while Delhi Police maintained that nothing had come to them.
A zero FIR was earlier lodged against her under Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint by Akhand Bharat Hindu Sena legal head Smriti Singh Chandel, and the matter was later transferred to Parliament Street police station in Delhi. However, Delhi Police has reportedly denied receiving the case, adding to the confusion over jurisdiction.
Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Ratna Singh said the organisation would provide legal assistance to the teenager and her family, while her mother has sought security and withdrawal of the FIR.
